Unprecedented Disaster: Hurricane Harvey Has Shattered The Rainfall Record For The Continental United States

Never before have we seen a storm dump more than 50 inches of rain on a single location in the continental United States. The previous record for rainfall in the continental United States occurred when Tropical Storm Amelia dumped 48 inches of rain on Medina, Texas in 1978. But now one spot in southeast Texas has already received 52 inches of rain, and the rain continues to fall. And overall, 14 different spots in the Houston area have already gotten more than 40 inches of rain. Authorities are telling us that this will easily be the most costly disaster in all of U.S. history, but nobody will be able to truly assess the total damage that has been done until the rain finally stops.

Sadly, meteorologists say that some parts of Texas will continue to get more rain all the way through Thursday. By that time, some areas may receive an additional 20 inches of rain on top of what they already have…

Irma churns into category 2 hurricane

ORLANDO, Fla. – Tropical Storm Irma is now a hurricane in the open Atlantic and is expected to strengthen into a category 4 storm as it treks west.

As of late Thursday morning, Irma was a category 2 storm packing sustained winds of 100 mph and was located more than 3,000 miles away from Florida. The storm is headed west toward the Leeward Islands.

U.S. and European computer models show Irma heading in different directions.

“The American models take it to the Carolinas by next Sunday (Sept. 10). The European models have it going to Cuba and possibly threatening South Florida,” News 6 meteorologist Troy Bridges said. “It’s just too early to tell.”

While the Gulf Coast continues to deal with the devastating impacts of Harvey, emergency managers in the United States have another tropical threat to monitor by the name of Irma.

Far across the Atlantic, just west of the Cabo Verde Islands, Irma has strengthened into a Category 2 hurricane as of Thursday midday. Irma became a tropical storm at midday on Wednesday.

“There is the potential for Irma to ramp up to a powerful hurricane in the coming days,” according to AccuWeather Hurricane Expert Dan Kottlowski.

New Technology Will Literally Put Words Into Someone’s Else’s Mouth

Most of us are familiar with Photoshop, a program that enables users to edit photographs in such a way that the average person cannot tell what the camera originally captured as opposed to the digitally-created lie that results from our editing.

Image editing is so common these days, from air brushing to full-on altering, that the old adage “a picture is worth a thousand words,” is no longer as true as it once was.

North Florida, South Georgia stuck between two tropical systems

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) –The National Hurricane Center has marked an area of low pressure off the Georgia coast as “potential tropical cyclone 10.” The wording may seem elaborate, but it means that this disturbance could become a tropical storm very soon. Because of its close proximity to land, this designation will allow the National Weather Service to issue tropical storm watches before the disturbance reaches tropical storm strength.

If this disturbance develops into a tropical storm as expected, it will be Irma.

As of the 11AM advisory, the potential tropical cyclone is expected to reach tropical storm strength by Tuesday. Winds within that area of low pressure already have speeds of 35 mph. Tropical storm watches and warnings extend along the North and South Carolina coasts. The storm will move northeast into the Atlantic again.
