Hurricane Jose becomes a Category 4 storm in Irma’s wake

Hurricane Jose — the storm forming in the wake of the devastating Hurricane Irma — was upgraded to Category 4 status, the National Hurricane Center said Friday.

An Air Force Hurricane Hunter plane recorded Jose’s winds topping out at 150-mph, and the storm is considered “extremely dangerous.”

Jose is moving west-northwest at 18-mph — toward the Leeward Islands, which were just battered by the powerful Irma.

Antigua, Barbuda, St. Martin and St. Barthelemy — all of which were decimated by Irma — again had hurricane watches in effect Friday morning.
