The first snow of the season is currently spreading across the upper Midwest

The first accumulating snow of the season will blanket a swath of the northern Plains, upper Midwest and western Great Lakes into this weekend as a low-pressure system originating in the Canadian Rockies sweeps eastward across those regions.

Snow is currently falling in parts of eastern and southern Minnesota, as well as western Wisconsin and northern Iowa.

As of midday Friday, the highest snowfall total reported is 8.8 inches near Finland, Minnesota, west of Lake Superior. As of Friday morning, Duluth had received 5 inches of snow.
