A shallow earthquake registered by the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) as M4.4 hit Central Java Province, Indonesia at 06:28 UTC on April 18, 2018. The agency is reporting a depth of 4 km (2.4 miles). EMSC is reporting M4.4 at a depth 18 km (11.2 miles).

The earthquake was centered about 52 kilometers (32 miles) north of Kebumen, a densely populated district of Central Java province, according to BMKG.
