A shallow earthquake registered by the EMSC as Mw5.5 earthquake hit near the coast of southwestern Peloponnese, a peninsula in southern Greece, at 05:14 UTC (08:14 local time) on June 25, 2018. The quake hit at a depth of 10 km (5 miles). The USGS reports M5.5 at a depth of 30.4 km (19 miles). The Institute of Geodynamics of the National Observatory of Athens reports M5.2 at a depth of 7 km (4.3 miles).

The epicenter was located 27 km (16.8 miles) W of Methóni (population), 69.2 km (43 miles) WSW of Kalamata (population 54 100) and 96.9 km (60.2 miles) WSE of Spárti (population 16 239), Greece.
