President Trump had reportedly indicated that he could be friends with Russian President Vladimir Putin—much to the dismay of former national security adviser H.R. McMaster.
According to a Washington Post report from Friday, inside sources quoted McMaster as saying during his time under Trump: “The president thinks he can be friends with Putin. I don’t know why, or why he would want to be.”
His remark was included in a report which questions Trump’s controversial foreign policy positions of criticizing long-time allies like Germany and the U.K. while offering more conciliatory views on countries like Russia.
