Between 1945 and 1962, the U.S. conducted over 200 nuclear tests. Although researchers used cameras to capture the destruction from each nuclear test, some of the films were not well preserved — and most of them were not available for the public to see.Thanks to a team at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, several of the films have been restored, declassified, and available for the public to see on YouTube.This gallery features screenshots from some of the videos. They serve as a harrowing reminder about the consequences of a nuclear detonation — and why we should always try to avoid nuclear warfare at all costs.
