President-elect Joe Biden will be inaugurated as the 46th president of the United States on Wednesday.
Biden’s inauguration arrives with a heavy security presence in Washington, D.C., near the Capitol and downtown areas. In fact, much of the area is closed off to the public as National Guard troops protect the area. The show of force comes after a pro-Trump mob stormed the U.S. Capitol earlier this month.
Most of the inauguration events will take place virtually because of the coronavirus pandemic. In fact, on Wednesday night, Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will take part in a virtual television event titled “Celebrating America,” which will include Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez.
